The nights of April 12 abd 13 would be remembered in Philippine GOTHDOM as a celebration of musical darkness, as well as nights of gathering among kindred spirits. EVE OF DESTINY, the premier Japanese Goth-Industrial entity, performed in all their stygian glory. They were visually as well as aurally stunning! Admittedly, there were awkward moments due to both venues' inadequate power facility, but they had overcome those fleeting moments of embarassment with flying colors (albeit in black and white). They played a powerful set of new songs that would be included in their upcoming debut release.
The movement's local stalwarts came in full force: as always, the scene's morbid denizens being loyal and faithful as ever. GOTH is a RELIGION. EOD's opening acts were Manila's best of the best. Dominion, Five Wounds to Enter, Skies of Ember, Prominence of Cathedrals and The Late Isabel, all great Asian artists in their own right, all shimmering in monochromatic brilliance.
The venue Ten Years After overflowed with black-clad creatures, with the bar's faux Gothic Cathedral interiors complementing the aura of the event, while Club Fluid's interiors were reminiscent of the Nostromo, the ill-fated mining spacecraft in the classic horror/sci-fi film Alien.
EVE OF DESTINY were on their way to Leipzig, Germany (their second time) to take part in the glorious, illustrious, pre-eminent Goth Festival, the WAVE GOTIK TREFFEN, the mother of all goth fests! (Germany is Gothdom's Mecca, our mutterland, so to speak)
EOD's entourage was truly impressive. Exquisitely cadaverous femmegoths dressed in their most decadent pervy-lolita outfits, lipsynching to Sex Gang Children's classic anthem "Sebastianne."
In between bands, on both nights, three DJs took turns molesting the ears of the devoted attendess, playing the best dark music this side of Necropolis. DJ Eiji (of Club Eve The New Church, Tokyo), DJ Fleshwounds (one of our very own darkseed) and yours truly, DJ Runeschadow (!).
These special events were organized by SUBKULTURE PRODUCTIONS, a group of individuals dead-icated to the promotion and preservation of the local as well as Asian Gothic Kulture. Principle, Philisophy and Aesthetiks.
We are looking forward to more foreign goth artists to perform on our black soil. We are even considering a massive goth festival, of an international/global scale. Til then brethren: the night beckons... Adieu.
