July 2002:
This is part of what we wrote to the NYC Mayor's Office:
I am a Long Island resident who works in midtown Manhattan. I hereby protest the recent
changes in NYC recycling policy. NYC should continue to recycle plastic and glass along
with all other recyclables. Some things are more important than saving money.

We got an answer from the mayor's office, but our email didn't change anything. But at least we knew we tried to do
something to help.
July 2003: Good News!
A little before July 1, 2003, this was posted on the New York City Department of Sanitation website:
Citywide Plastic Recycling Resumes Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 1st
Sanitation Commissioner John J. Doherty announced today that the City will resume its
plastic recycling collection program citywide tomorrow, Tuesday, July 1st. The designated
plastic recyclables are: plastic bottles and jugs including beverage, milk, and juice
cartons. All other plastics will be considered garbage. [...]Glass recycling will resume
in April 2004.

It's too bad that other plastic things won't get recycled, but it's really cool about the
bottles and containers.
