Click on your state below for links to local newspapers, radio and television stations in your area. Send them an e-mail telling them of your interest in reforming the Electoral College. Ask them to air information about the problems caused by the Electoral College, and to provide discussion of the options for change, pros and cons, etc. Here's an example: Dear Sir, The unequal votes of Americans in different states in Presidential elections is too serious a problem to ignor. It was because colonial Americans were treated unequally by the British that we fought the Revolutionary War. It was because of unequal treatment of the slaves that led to the Civil War. The inequality and injustice caused by the Electoral College will lead to something similar if it is not reformed or replaced. (See http://www.oocities.org/gparish2000/index.html, for an excellent discussion of the problems caused by the Electoral College.) Reforming the Electoral College is not a partisan issue; it is a question of fundamental human rights. The only reform options that can eliminate the inequalities and inequities caused by the Electoral College are direct election of the president by the people; or the House Plan, which was first offered by James Wilson at the first Continental Congress and most recently in 1969 by Representative Frank Horton of New York. The House plan involves the least change to the Constitution and simply removes the two senators from the number of electors from each state. Your station should be informing the people about the problems caused by the Electoral College and participating in the nationwide debate about the need for Electoral College reform. Sincerely yours,
