Reti neurali artificiali e GIZC


Le reti neurali artificiali o reti neuronali (ANN) sono modelli computazionale costituiti da una rete di semplici unità di elaborazione non lineari (neuroni) dotate di una propria memoria che comunicano tra loro attraverso delle connessioni pesate su cui vengono scambiati dati. I neuroni lavorano in parallelo e quindi le ANN sono sistemi di elaborazione intrinsecamente paralleli con notevoli doti di resistenza all’errore (fault tolerant). La maggioranza delle ANN vengono utilizzate in problemi in cui vi è necessità di apprendere funzioni statiche. Una RNA addestrata in questo modo, dunque, è in grado di associare in ogni determinato istante un vettore di input ad un vettore di output. Questa forma di associazione statica input-output è adatta a problemi di pattern recognition (ad esempio applicazioni di OCR) in cui i vettori e costituiscono pattern spaziali indipendenti dal tempo.Il processamento e il trattamento dei dati gioca un ruolo importante nella ricerca ecologica e nella GIZC. Gli ecologi dispongono di metodi numerici, matematici, statistici per analizzare i dati, e in anni recenti si sono sviluppate metodologie di intelligenza artificiale per il processamento di tali dati. I dati raccolti per l'elaborazione di un modello di gestione integrata della fascia costiera possono essere analizzati con diversi metodi (grafici, statistici, ecc.). Le reti neurali rappresentano un moderno e potente strumento di analisi dei dati nell'ambito della GIZC sia per la classificazione che per il forecasting.
