| Monk's Cowl |

| Monk's Cowl is situated in the central kwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg. Access from Durban is via the N3 exit 179 (Estcourt North, Loskop), and then left at the junction for the R600. The waypoints here cover a day-walk from the Monk's Cowl parking lot to the Sphinx, from there up onto the plateau of the Little Berg. Deviating from the main path to Blind Man's Corner the route returns via Sunset Trail to the hotel. The path joining the Sphinx - Blind Man's Corner path and the Sunset Trail was not easy to find. We left the main path near the Breakfast Stream Crossing 1 (waypoint MC05) and walked over to MC07. We weren't the first - there was a small path. |
| The Sunset Trail path was not clearly marked on the summit, but walking from cairn to cairn there should be no problem. The descent to the hotel is clearly marked, but the path is steep and slippery after rain. A good walk! The waypoints are in the file below. It is a (comma delimited) text file with all the waypoints and two routes. When I find out how to upload the Gartrip waypoints file I will do so. |
