Northgate Medical Practice is a purpose built medical centre opened on 6th March 2000. It is situated on the site of the old North Gate near the centre of Canterbury. We have ample car parking and are within quick and easy access to the main routes in and out of Canterbury and within five minutes walking distance of the city centre.

We have seven Partners and a Retainer GP and a list size of 12,318. Currently 11% of the practice population are aged 75 years and over, and 5% aged five years and under. We are situated in the centre of one of East Kents' recognised deprivation areas. We also run a dispensing branch surgery at Blean (4 miles from the city Centre)

We have 12 consulting rooms available, two spacious waiting rooms, 2 treatment rooms and a minor operations suite. We have a Health Promotion Suite, Eye examination room with slit lamp. Library with full internet access with television and video for teaching and training purposes. We have a full compliment of Nursing and clerical staff including a Reception and Practice Manager. We have a fully computerised integrated appointment and clinical system 'Premiere NT'. We are fully active in the East Kent Primary Care Clinical Effectiveness programme (PRICCE)

All District Nurses and Health Visitors are based at the Centre, thus creating a fully integrated Nursing and Primary Health Care Team on one site. We have many visiting professionals, physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropody, counselling and aromatherapy.

Dr Peter W Burrowes MB BS(London) LRCP MRCS Dobst RCOG - London 1975

Senior Partner - Experienced family practitioner and a registered DSS medical examiner and a member of the Kent and Canterbury Clinical Liaison Group.

DrDavid J P Grice BMSouthampton(1979)

Dr Grice has a particular interest in the provision and development of diabetic medicine in primary care. He is a member of the Kent Child Protection Committee, the Phamaceutical Regulations Committee and also the East Kent LMC.

Dr Simon B A Ellis MB BS (London 1979)

Dr Ellis has an interest in ophthalmology and ophthalmic minor operations. He has been a Clinical Assistant in Ophthalmology for ten years working with local consultant Mr Nigel Andrew. He has a special interest in Diabetic Eye Disease and Glaucoma screening.

Dr Peter E Biggs MB BS(London) LRCP MRCS FRCS(Eng) MRCGP DRCOG DCH (London 1980)

Dr Biggs being previously a surgeon before entering General Practice, maintains his interest in minor surgery and paediatrics. He is the local GP Tutor and is the Educational Lead for the Canterbury & Coastal Primary Care Group and also the Vice Chair of the PCG Clinical Governance Group and a GP Trainer.

Dr Louise Foord MB CHB Dobst RCOG DCH

An experienced family GP with a keen interest in family planning, gynaecology and paediatrics.

Dr Jacqueline E McIvor MB BS (London) DA London 1986.

An experience family GP with a keen interest in the provision and development of the treatment of asthmatic patients. She is the practice lead on the organisation and participation in the PRICCE Scheme.

Dr Paul Walkington MB CHB DRCOG MRCGP (Birmingham 1990)

Has an interest in minor surgery. He is Clinical Assistant in GU Medicine at the local hospital. He is also the Practice IT lead.

We also have the possibility of being able to provide, rented, 2 bedroomed living accommodation on site.
