You'll need some software now to configure the serial EEprom with the required setup info, as well as a MAC address (identity number) for the rest of the world to talk to your Ethernet port.
[A MAC address is the equivalent of an Ethernet Social Security Number.
It's six hex digits - a lot of possible numbers (255x255x255x255x255x255=
LOTS!) and you'll need to supply a number to configure the port - more
