IROQUOIS WARRIORS (Grand River Reserve, Niagara Region)

This year a very small group of Native warriors were present to aid the British in their fight. The group was kept small, because of the strict nature of recruitment. Participants had to be at least part Native, and had to be willing to shave their heads in imitation of the legendary "scalp lock." Both warriors were also obligated to learn about the history of Iroquoi involvement in the War of 1812, and portray their roles in a respectful manner. Because of these rules, and the enthusiasm of the warriors, the Native warrior contingent was a great success.
