My Raider Ancestors

Most of the information presented here is found in original sources and published genealogical sources, magazines, books, the web, etc., and sources are identified. I must also thank the people who have generously shared information on family compositions. They are each identified, along with their email address, with the family group sheet for which they supplied information.  My comments and speculations are identified in green and red should be explored further before being acknowledged as valid.   "?" signifies that no official records have been found to verify name or data.

2. Benjamin Raider/Rader, b.ca. 1898 at Kentucky

I have found no information on Ben Raider/Rader other than the birth certificate of my father Ernest E. Raider. Family stories place him in Hamilton, Ohio and others as living in Kentucky. A Ben Rader is listed as a truck driver in the 1934 Cincinnati/Hamilton County, Ohio Directory.

Another possible spelling of the name is Rader (there were a number of Raders in Jackson County, Kentucky during this period). On my father birth certificate it gives Ben Raider's address as Crooksville, Madison County, Kentucky. It was at Crooksville that James W. Williams' farms were located.

I am speculating that Ben Raider was either a farm hand or truck driver for James W. Williams. James Williams owned a dry goods store in Sand Gap, Jackson County and used to send trucks to Richmond and Lexington for supplies for the store.

2. Gertrude Williams, b. 14 June 1906 at Red House, Madison County, Kentucky, d. 19 January 1948 at Jackson County, Kentucky, buried at the City of Richmond Cemtery, Madison County, Kentucky

My father was the only child of Gertrude Williams. He was born in Madison County, Kentucky on the farm of Billy Williams, Gertrude's father. Gertrude lived on both the Madison and Clover Bottom farms. She and my Dad lived in one of the log cabin houses on the farms.  There was a blacksmith shop on the Madison County, Kentucky farm. I have one picture of Gertrude. She is standing next to her husband Willie Campbell.

   Marriage Date: 27 December 1944 at Richmond, Madison County, Kentucky
   Anna's middle name is spelled as in the male variant of Francis. Benjamin J. Hudgens, father, gave each of his children the middle name of a neighbor in Paint Lick, Madison County, Kentucky.
   1. Linda Sue Raider, b. 11 October 1945 at Richmond, Madison County, Kentucky, d. 27 September 2000 at Ann Arbor, Michigan, buried at the Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
      Obit: Age 54, died September 27, 2000 at Arbor Hospice Residence, Ann Arbor. Linda was born on October 11, 1945 in Richmond, Kentucky, daughter of Ernest and Anna (Hudgens) Raider. Mrs. Hadley worked for the University of Michigan for over 17 [27] years. She is survived by her parents; her husband, Earl Hadley; son Michael (Jeneen); grandchildren, Alexandra (age 7) and Zachery (age 4); her brother, Randall Raider; many nieces and nephews. Her family will miss her greatly and want to thank her for all she has done for them. Linda always put everyone else first, even up to her last day. Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday September 29, 2000 at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL with Rev. David Mulder presiding. The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment in the Washtenong Memorial Park.
