Greater Spirits

The greater spirits, or angels, or whatever you choose to call them, are not the rulers, or gods, of the elves. They are like older brothers or sisters to the elves, or at least to the select few who can communicate with them. Their origine is unknown, as is their true nature. They are helpful, for the most part, although they have personalities as unique and diverse as those of the elves. They appear most often as luminescent beings, consisting of brilliant light, contained (barely) in a mortal-shaped body. Their voices echoe through the mind of the hearer, the melodious tones alone having the power to heal, calm, and relax. They offer assistance, but only to those who first help themselves. It requires a great deal of patience, dedication, and strength, both mental and physical, to gain the skills required to speak to these creatures. They have much to offer, but demand much in return. They, like blessings, also have "mirror images", creatures like them, but not, living in another realm, accessable only through the portal. They are demons, or devils, whatever you choose to call them. They don't care. Their power is as much as that of the angels, only darker. Much darker. They will steal your soul, should you deal with them. None now live, nor ever has, who can control them. They will erode your will, turning you into the weakest version of yourself possible. Their numbers, like those of the angels, are impossible to know, although it is believed that the numbers of both types coexist; if one is destroyed of one race, one of the other race will perish as well. To destroy one is impossible, or nearly so. It is no longer known how such a feat might be accomplished, or even if it was never known how! To look into their eyes is to see a darker version of one's self, to see one already damned.
