Archaic?

"Jewish Law,"
they say, is archaic!
"Oh yes," they say
People study it
Some communities may even live by it -
"All right". they say,
According to old Jewish law.
Marriage is archaic anyhow
And Death is nothing new
But what's that got to do with
International contracts, Interpol,
Murder, robbery and sex crimes, The 20th century?"
But there were some who insisted
And Herman Hollander among them
That with the return to the land of their fathers
We return to the law of our fathers
"It belongs", he said
It belongs.
We are "Am Hasepher"
And the book is a book of law!
And this law
Never forgotten
But devotedly remembered.
"It's ours! he said,
Needs only
Study, reinterpretation, application
For revival."

Judges will rule their rulings
Searching for original sources,
not Turkish
not English
But Jewish
Nor need there be rejection
But rethinking
In our own rhythm
In our own cadences
Developing as law has always developed
Sifting facts
Answering questions
Making decisions
Doing what law does
Regulating humans living together
Molding in its way,

A Jewish way of being
Out of the
Jewish way of thinking,
The law, a Living vibrant thing!
Thus thought Herman Hollander.
