Pronouns

Me
And the children
Climbing sand dunes
The better to see the sea
Sharing
Their
Delight in summer thunder storms
Watching for rainbows
In the sunny sky.

We
Picking blue berries from prickly bushes
Shuffling yellow and green leaves along the walk
Crunching snow beneath our feet
Shaping snowballs with our freezing fingers.

They
Home from school
Tossing school-bags on bed and chair
Raiding the frigidaire
Singing long into the night.

Us
Long ago.

I with
Eyes peering often unseeing
Ears listening often unhearing
Legs wending their weary way
Could long
Could yearn
Could sigh
Could weep

But I won't
Because
Though my walk is not so springy anymore
I still can love!
