Remember the arguments about reparations from Germany?
Excommunicate Germany! WHAT! Let them enjoy the spoils of war? Get what we can out of them. It belongs to us. Robbed of everything, should we rob ourselves of what we can get back.
wouldn't touch a penny of their filthy money!
But it isn't theirs. It is ours!
There were discussions over every dinner table.
No epithet was worse than "you Nazi", you!
Let Germany do penance for what has no penance.
But they were all guilty, making none guilty. England, Switzerland, the US, all played along out of weakness, out of fear, not really caring enough. Everyone got callous, including ourselves. Everybody does it. The majority must be right. There was a majority. "Reparations saved Israel" One hears it again and again. Saved Israel, from what? For what?
There was a majority in Germany. and Spain And who knows where the majority will be tomorrow. What is this faith in a majority?
Caught in the frustration of "no language", injustice, impoliteness, "You Nazi" was spit out. a universal epithet. Understood by all.
He was a child, an innocent child when all this happened.
Can we blame him for the sins of his fathers. How many times must we be persecuted, progrommed, denied the right of existence, shipped from port to port, denied entrance.
I simply cannot understand the members of the orchestra. Don't they feel there's something wrong about playing in Germany?
