They say he is great because he knows when to bend." Isn't that sort of upside down thinking? Actually, we were hoping when Begin was elected that a harder line would be taken and the weaknesses of the Mapai be not repeated. The concessions Begin has made, outdo anything the Mapai ever thought of and Sadat certainly was very clever in grasping the opportunity to place the extremist, Begin, in a more than compromising position. He did it so cleverly, that is it hard to believe it was just an accident. I personally don't care about the principles as such but I feel most uncomfortable, even insecure, in the feeling that we are practically going to be back to 1948 borders and I do not see Egypt standing by if
one of the other Arab states thinks it a good time to destroy Israel altogether. Probably with Egypt and Israel pro America, America feels she has a good hold in the Middle East and in the end maybe it makes no difference to her who is here in the Middle East just so it's pro America.
I do hope something happens soon to make me really believe in the peace or to make America see what agreements with Egypt really means.
