The Siege

My nephew had been Bar Mitzvahed in Jerusalem
during the Siege.
Burma Road twisted and turned and slipped and sloped behind Latrun
Latrun had fallen and Bab El Wad was strewn with shot out
trucks and jeeps, ersatz for armoured cars.
Surely, the world will much note and long remember
That God had shown His Hand.
Mashiach's coming was assured.
A prophecy would be fulfilled!

We knew that a prophecy would be fulfilled
We knew that God was present.
It was more than self-adulation
It was more than self pride
It was not boasting!
Again, David had killed Goliath
It wasn't any myth of doubtful divinity.
Have you ever thought
How they must have felt
Watching those golden chariots
Being swallowed up in the waters behind them.
Oh! Hallelujah!
It took 6 days- Maaseh Beraishit.
Vaya'ar Elohim ki tov and from the confusion came order.

But that wasn't all
That we watched!
"Oh say can you see
The rockets' red glare
The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there!"
