Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is a HUGE part of being in my second grade classroom.  I think this is a wonderful program and so many of my students have benefitted from it.  Their confidence in reading is amazing because of this program.

We are working toward many goals...

I have an old shower curtain that I have turned into our AR motivator.  Each student has a penguin with their name on it.  Each Friday, I print out their point total so far for the year, and we take time to move all of the penguins.  Everyone is working really hard and they are so proud of how far their penguin has moved!

Last year I made a deal with my students and said if they passed 1,000 tests, we would have a pizza party.  They surpassed that goal by passing 1,050 tests for the year and earned their pizza.  This year we decided to top that goal.  We have already had our pizza party for passing 1,000 and 2,000 tests !  Our total number of tests passed this year is: 2266  SUPER!!

There are also individual goals the students are working toward.  I have different prizes set up for when the students reach a certain number of points.  Here is a list of the prizes:
