The Grammar Doctor

Q. How do you address 2 doctors that are related with the same last name for correspondence?
For example:
Drs. Brett & Carl Smith
Dr. Brett & Dr. Carl Smith
or Dr. Brett Smith & Dr. Carl Smith

A. In addressing more than one person with the same title, use the plural form of that title. If the letter were being to to two brothers, for example, the appropriate salutation would be
Messrs. Joseph and Maurice Curley.
There would be no need to repeat the title or the last name.
