The Grammar Doctor

Q. The coupling of "have" and "got" has always sounded unpleasantly guttural to me, as well as being suspiciously tautological.

I hope that I have got it right. Have I?

A. I remember one of my high school English teachers saying there was something wrong with "have got," so it never sounds quite right to me. However, I have never seen anything more authoritative that tells why it is wrong, if in fact it is.

The combination may be infelicitous, but I don't think it is incorrect.
