Q.Is it "My Mom is going to pick up Christine and me after school today" or
"My Mom is going to pick up Christine and I after school today?" And why?
Thank you so much. This has become a "bone of contention" between
my daughter and one of her carpool drivers.
A.It should be "My Mom is going to pick up Christine and me after school today."
Christine and me are the direct objects in the sentence and should be in objective case (me rather than I).
If we take Christine out of that sentence, the correct pronoun becomes obvious:
My Mom is going to pick up me after school. (or pick me up) We would never say "My Mom is going to pick I up."
