Q. I was reading an article in NEWSWEEK and noticed that the author had added an 's to a possessive word that ended in s. Is this now acceptable? If not, is it correct to add an 's to a proper name ending in s?

A.There are two ways to form the possessive of a word ending in s. One is to add 's; the other is to add just an apostrophe. Both methods are correct, both in common nouns and proper nouns.
