The Grammar Doctor

Q. I am still confused, please tell me what the predicate nominative is in the following sentence:
The Vikings were fearless in battle.

A. The sentence doesn't have a predicate nominative. A predicate nominative "renames" the subject of the sentence. Your sentence has a predicate adjective a word that comes after the verb but describes the subject. The predicate adjective is "fearless."

Here's a sentence with a predicate nominative:
The Vikings were fierce warriors.
