Q. Can you please tell me the subject and the predicate nomnative in the following:

Who were the Cambridge Poets?

My answer key says Cambridge Poets is the subject and Who is the predicate nomnative. However, my son's teacher says that Who is the subject and Cambridge Poets is the pn. Can you please explain? Thank you very much!

A. The answer key is correct. In a declarative sentence, the subject is usually at the beginning of the sentence, but in an interrogative sentence (a question), subject and verb are reversed. This is a question, so the subject comes after the verb.
