Q. 1. How many spaces come after a period in a typed letter before you start the next sentence? Some people say one and others say two. Word (the program) shows an error on my screen when I use two spaces.
2. How does one properly address a letter to a State Senator or representative?

A. 1. In the old days of typewriters, we put two spaces after a period at the end of a sentence. With new word processing programs such as Word, the program makes the appropriate adjustment, so we need only one space.
2. The proper address for a state senator or representative is
The Honorable Jon Doe
House of Representatives (or the State Senate)
