OBITUARY: "CAROL ROWLAND TROHAN; TRAVELED WITH PRESIDENTS...Carol RowlandTrohan, 93, a former Chicagoan and a teacher, was married for 67 years to long time Tribune Washington correspondent Walter Trohan. A residnet of Columbia, MD., she died
in a nursing home there Tuesday. Mrs. Trohan, who often traveled with her husband on presidential junkets,was acquainted with most of the US presidents from Herbert Hoover to George Bush. Her husband covered Washington from the early 1930s
through the 1970s. "President Hoover in particular liked her," her husband said. Of course,that wasn't hard. Eisenhower and Nixon were also friendly toward her. Shewas lively and popular, just a very nice person." Mrs. Trohan was descended on
her father's side from a family that came to America with the first settlers of Jamestown, VA., and on her mother's side from a family who was aboard the Mayflower. Her father, John Riley Rowland,was a school teacher, principal and
superintendent in Fulton County for 50 years. She taught in a country school there after attending Knox College in Galesburg, Ill. "She was my wife and best friend," her husband said. Other survivors include two daughters, Carol Glover and
Nancy Dollar; a son, Walter, Jr.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services for Mrs. Trohan will be Thursday in Columbia."
