Notes for DAVID MCQUITTY
MILITARY: 1862-1864 - War Between the States - CSA service - Per Missouri State Archives "MISSOURI SOLDIERS (1861-1865) WAR BETWEEN THE STATES index card:
"McQUITTY, David. Rank: Pvt. Service: Co. B, Snider's Bn., Mo. Cav. Date Enlisted: Jul 31, 1862. Place no of record. Final Disposition not found of record."
(Long): David McQuitty probably was captured early after his enlistment, which was common for much of Snider's early recruiting efforts in 1862. The Yankees had the State under a draconian martial-law, with roughly 50,000 occupation troops
to interdict recruiting efforts and fight partisans. David was incarcerated as a POW at Camp Douglas, IL, where he died - likely from diseases.
