The Case of the Disappearing Diablo GT

For reasons unknown, Lamborghini refused to license the Diablo GT to Polyphony Digital for use in Gran Turismo 3. What's unusual is that cars from Lamborghini's parent company, Volkswagen, are featured in GT3. So how did our review of the import version include this picture? Four letters: JLOC. It turns out that one of the members of the Japanese Lamborghini Owner's Club happens to be wealthy enough to have his own Diablo GT racing team in professional leagues. This also happens to be the only team racing the Diablo GT without the official support of Lamborghini. I'm not really sure how it's done, but the car is listed without any Lamborghini badges or branding. For the Japanese release, Polyphony Digital licensed the car from the individual. Sneaky eh? It worked for the Porsche cars (you get RUF-modded versions instead). This strategy worked in Japan, but this apparently didn't fly with lawyers for Lamborghini when it came to the North American and European releases. Polyphony Digital had no choice to but to remove the Diablo-GT clone from the game. There really isn't much we can do about it. What are we going to do? Say that we'll boycott all Lamborghini cars?

Note: But the American version of the game does get a new car the Acura RSX Type S!
