Do games really need to be long?

I sorta like the new Nintendo policy of making relatively short games. That means that the quality will be better. There are very few games that are long that are also high quality. And then the lenght is usually determined by stupid stuff like sailing a billion miles to get from Valua to Ixa'Taka thru the South Sea or books and books of text to read like Xeno Gears or battles that take way too long cuz enemies have 2354232463 hp or because summons and spells and other things like in FFVIII. To be frank, if you took out all the extra crap in most games they'd be about as long as Nintendo's new games are. Besides, I usually end up getting bored with most long games about half way thru. I mean, most of the RPG's in my house have save states of about 15 hours before I got tired of it. If it was a new Nintendo game I'd be done with it instead of needing another 34 hours of game play due to retarded stuff mentioned above. Besides, shorter games are easier to explore and learn. The Zeldas have always been relatively short (providing you don't get lost or stuck) and that means you can explore all kinds of nooks and crannies and try and discover all kinds of stuff cuz you've already finished the game. Now you can focus efforts on goofing off instead of trying to wade thru 5 unecessary dungeons where one would have sufficed. Nintendo's on to something as usual and I for one am really liking it.
