WILLIAM J. TORPEY SR.
                                            
  William J. Torpey, 89, a  resident of Mt. Alverno  Home in Clinton for  
  nine years, died Saturday morning in  Mercy hospital. Friends may call  
  after 7:30 this evening in Hanrahan funeral Home in De Witt.
  
  Services will  be held  Monday morning  at 9:30  a.m. in  St. Joseph's  
  Catholic church in De Witt, with the  burial in St. Joseph's cemetery. 
  The parish rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
  
  Pallbearers will all be grandsons, Philip,  Dale, Tom, and Dan Torpey,  
  Dan McCloskey and Gene Leonard.
  
  William Torpey was born in Lost Nation on January 29, 1878, The son of 
  William and Elizabeth Fahey Torpey. He married Gertrude Farrell January 
  11, 1905 in Villa Nova, and farmed in Delmar and De Witt area for years.
  
  Survivors include one son, Roger of Charlotte; three daughters , Sister 
  Mary Ruth of Mount Mercy, Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Everett (Mildred) Leonard  
  and Miss Catherine  Torpey, both of  Clinton; one  sister, Miss Teresa  
  Torpey  of  El  Paso,  Texas;  eight  grandchildren  and  three  great  
  grandchildren.
  
  Preceding him in death were his wife and two sons.

  Gertrude Farrell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Farrell and William J. 
  Torpey, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Torpey were married January 11, 1905 
  in St. Patrick's church in Villa Nova, by Rev. M. J. Hennessey.
  
  Their attendants were Martin Torpey, a cousin, and Lillian Reed. Altar  
  boys were Walter and Henry McClimon.

  Mrs. William J. Torpey 74,  died at 3 a.m. today  in De Witt Community  
  hospital after a  long illness. Friends  may call  at Hanrahan funeral  
  home. Funeral services will be Friday at St. Joseph's church with burial 
  at St. Joseph's cemetery.
  
  Margaret Gertrude Farrell  was born November  23, 1880  at Villa Nova,  
  northwest of De Witt, to the late George and Catherine Lawler Farrell. 
  On January 11, 1905 she married William Torpey. They farmed many years 
  near Delmar before coming to  De Witt 14 years ago.  She was a member  
  of the Gold Star Mother's group and the Altar and Rosary Society.
  
  Surviving are her husband, two sons; Roger of Charlotte; William J. of 
  Vinton; three daughters;  Sister Mary  Ruth of  Garry Owen  in Jackson  
  county; Mrs. Everett (Mildred) Leonard of Clinton and Catherine Torpey 
  of Cedar Rapids;  8 grandchildren  and one  sister, Teresa  Shannon of  
  Sigourney one son, James, was killed in China in 1943, during World War 
  II.

  Mrs. William  Torpey 74,  died at  3 a.m. Wednesday  in the  De Witt
  Community  hospital  after a  long  illness.   The  body is  in  the
  Hanrahan Funeral home where  friends may call. Funeral services will
  be held at 9:30 Friday morning in St. Joseph's church with burial in
  St. Joseph's cemetery.
  
  The former Margaret Gertrude Farrell was born November 23, 1880, the
  daughter  of  George and  Katherine  Farrell.   She  was married  on
  January  11, 1905 to  William Torpey.   The couple  celebrated their
  golden  wedding anniversary  in  January 1955.   Mrs.  Torpey was  a
  member of the Gold Star Mothers and Altar and Rosary Society.
  
  Surviving include the husband, 3 daughters, Mrs. Mildred Leonard,
  Clinton; Sister Mary Ruth, Garry Owen, Iowa; Miss Katherine Torpey
  of Cedar Rapids; 2 sons; Roger of Charlotte and William of Vinton; a
  sister, Mrs. Teresa Shannon, Sigourney, Iowa and eight grandchildren

		       Sister Mary Ruth Torpey
                                            
  Sister Mary  Ruth  Torpey, 82,  died  Sunday in  Sacred  Heart Convent  
  following a short illness.
  
  She was born May 29, 1907 at Lost Nation. She entered the congregation  
  of the Sisters of  Mercy of Cedar  Rapids Aug. 15, 1925,  and made her  
  final profession of vows June 16, 1931. She taught at St. Xavier School 
  Manchester; St. Berchman's School, Marion;  St. Joseph School, DeWitt;  
  Sacred Heart School, Oelwein; St. Patrick School, Garryowen; Immaculate 
  Conception School, Elma;  Columbus High  School, Waterloo;  and at St.  
  Wenceslaus  School,  Immaculate  Conception  School  and  Mount  Mercy   
  Accademy, all in Cedar Rapids. From 1967 to 1976 she was alumni director 
  at Mount Mercy College.  She retired to Sacred  Heart Convent in 1976.  
  Survivors include two  sisters, Mildred Leonard  and Catherine Torpey,  
  both of Clinton.
  
  Services: 10:30 a.m.  Tuesday, Sacred  Heart Chapel  by the  Rev James  
  mcBride. burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m.  
  today in the chapel, where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Stewart 
  Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
