Notes for Jeremiah Lucey
			  by Lyman Morrison

			     20 Jan 1994

There is a discrepancy on the date of birth. His grave stone says
December 12, 1800 and the obituary gives the date as December 14,
1799. I doubt if he or anyone else knew the exact date. I am going
to use the tombstone for my records. I got his obituary from my
mother she had hand copied it from a newspaper clipping. I have
another obituary from a clipping in Boone County Democrat, which
states that he was born December 12, 1798. Jeremiah certainly had the
wanderlust. He was born in Ireland and lived in England and New York
before settling in St. Joseph county Michigan, near White Pigeon, in
the very southern part of the state. He then moved to Mishawaka, St.
Joseph county, Indiana, which is roughly 75 miles from White Pigeon,
Michigan. (1842- 1846). The two St Josephs are not a typo but a
coincidence. The family moved to Stephenson county, Illinois, which
is about 25 miles west of Rockford (1846- 1850. They then moved to a
farm about 6 miles north of Dewitt, Clinton county, Iowa in 1850 and
stayed there until 1865 when they moved to a farm near Mineral Ridge,
Dodge township, Boone county, Iowa.

I found him listed in the US census for 1840, 50, 60, 70, and 80. He
still called himself a farmer in 1880 and Bridget was evidently
bedridden for there was a checkmark in that column.

I was unable to locate a will but I have a probate record. His son
Edward J. is the executor and he has two peices of property in the
city of Boone. He may have owned some land in Carroll county at one
time.

Jeremiah N. lived in Boone in 1880 and boarded with a family and was
single and a blacksmith. In 1900 he lived in Battle Creek, Ida
county, Iowa. He was listed on federal census forms as a blacksmith.
He also lived at Carroll and Odebolt and lived at Merrill, in Plymouth
county when he died. They had 8 children in 1900, and according to his
obituary, there was at least one mor.

In 1900 Edward J. lived at Carroll and gave his occupation as a
blacksmith. His youngest sister, "Kate" Micka, lived next door and her
husband, George gave his occupation as a traveling salesman. They
lived at Mason City in 1925.

Bridget and Eugene Lovejoy lived in Boone in 1880 and had three
children, and Eugene wokred on the railroad as a laborer. In 1900
they lived in Des Moines and his occupation was a fireman. They had
eight children living at home then. They had 12 children in 22 years
and there was 9 living in 1900.

Dennis F. Lucey lived in Des Moines Township, Boone county, Ia., in
1880. He had a wife Sarah J. and 3 children and was a farmer. I was
never able to locate him after 1880. I found a Dennis F. Lucey living
in Chicago in the 1910 index, He was living by himself and he was
about the right age, but i'm not sure.

John Lucey lived in Jackson township, Crawford county, Ia., in 1900.
He had been married for 32 years and had 3 children at home, and was
listed as a farmer. They had 6 children and 3 were living in 1900.

The eldest daughter Mary and her husband Jeremiah Donegan lived in
Welton township, Clinton county, Ia. in 1880. They had 7 children at
home.
