MINNIE (DEPUTY) LEWIS was born in 1865, daughter of Sol-
DEPUTY omon and Lucretia (Pierson) Deputy of Jennings County, Ind.
Solomon Deputy was the oldest son of William and Cassandra
(Gasaivay) Deputy. William Deputy was born in 1807 in Wood
County, Va., son of Solomon and Sarah Deputy, who came to Indiana in 1810,
the first settlers of Jennings County. William Deputy left several "Old
Settler's Speeches" in which is to be found a wealth of early history.
These speeches are to be found in the Smith Momorial Library of the Indiana
Historical Society section of the State Library. The father of William,
Solomon Deputy, was born in Sussex County, Del., son of Sylvester and Es-
ther (Hudson) Deputy. The ancestor of Sylvester Deputy came from Wales in
1658 and was an Original Landed Proprietor of Cedar Creek Hundred, Sussex
County, on Delaware Bay. The ancestors of Esther Hudson Deputy came first
to Accomac County, Va., and were land owners there as early as 1634. The
great grandfather of Esther Hudson came into Sussex County, Delaware.
LUCRETIA (PIERSON) DEPUTY was born in 1836 in Scott County, Ind., the
daughter of James Weathers and Lucretia (Morgan) Pierson. James Weathers
Pierson came to Scott County in 1818 from Fleming County, Ky. In the 1820's
he built one of the first mills in Vernon Township, Jackson County, Ind.,
at Slate Ford, east of Crothersville. He was born in 1794, the son of
Shadrack and Rachel (Clinch) Pierson. Shadrack Pierson was one of trip-
lets -- Shadrack, Mesheck, and Abednego Pierson, born in 1754, in Culpepper
County, Va. During the winter at Valley Forge, Shadrack's feet were frozen,
which caused him to be a cripple for the rest of his life.
LUCRETIA (MORGAN) PIERSON was born in 1807 in Bourbon County, Ky.,
daughter of David and Sarah Morgan. She came with her parents to Scott
County, Ind,. in 1822. David Morgan was born in Huntsville, Ala., a rela-
tive of John Hunt Morgan. According to a story handed down in the family,
John Hunt Morgan, on his raid through Indiana, stopped to visit with his
relative, Reece Morgan, of Lexington, Ind., a son of David and Sarah Mor-
gan. During the visit his men were helping themselves to Reece Morgan's
horses, chickens, and other property, all of which had to be returned when
  General Morgan learned about it,
DAVID MORGAN descended from David Morgan who came with his parents
from Wales to Bucks County, Pa. The sister of this David Morgan was Sarah
Morgan, who married Squire Boone, and was the mother of Daniel Boone.

The above is from a Jackson County, Indiana, DAR book.

Note by Dennis Nicklaus: I believe the stated relationship to
John Hunt Morgan is completely false. I also don't think the
alleged relationship to Sarah Morgan Boone can be substantiated.
