Inez Helen Scott
Mrs. Lin D. Cartwright, wife of the editor of the
Christian-Evangelist, died at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in St.
Louis, Dec. 30, 1953, of cerebral hemorrhage, after an illness of two
weeks.
She was graduated from Drake University in 1913 and later attended the
University of Chicago. As Inez Helene Scott she was married to Lin D.
Cartwright in 1913.
She was descended from a line of pioneers going back to the beginnings
of the first faculty of Drake university. Her father, Dr. E. C. Scott
was a physician. Her mother taught in Abingdon College, and
Oskaloosa, college, which later was moved to Des Moines to become
Drake University. Her paternal grandfather was an early pioneer
preacher in Indiana and Iowa. Mrs. Cartwright was associated with her
husband in the following pastorates; Fowler, Colo.; Ft. Collins,
Colo.; Coffeyville, Kan.; and First Church, Chattanooga, Tenn.
She served as president of the Ministers Wives Fellowship, which met
in connection with the International Convention in Grand Rapids,
Mich., in 1942.
She is survived by her husband; three children; Dr. Dorwin Cartwright,
director of Research Center of Group Dynamics, University of Michigan,
Ann Arbor; Mrs. Henry Warren, Detroit, Mich.; and Colbert S.
Cartwright, minister, Pulaski Heights Church, Little Rock, Ark. She
is also survived by two sisters Emma Scott and Lois Scott of Des
Moines, Iowa. A sister, Ada Scott, deceased, was missionary to Japan.
A brother, Norman Scott, is also deceased.

Ada Calista Scott
Ada C. Scott, a former missionary to Japan, passed away in Des Moines,
Iowa on Oct. 9. She served as a missionary in Tokyo from 1916 to 1925.
She had charge of a kindergarten for a time and later taught Bible
classes in tyhe Margaret K. Long School. Following her service as a
missionary, she taght in the high school at Chariton, Iowa, until the
time of her death. She was a granddaughter of Norman Dunshee, a
pioneer educator who taught in Hiram College and was a member of the
first faculty of Drake University.
Surviving members of the family are: Emma Scott, registrar at Drake
university, Des Moines; Lois Scott teacher in North Des Moines High
School; Norman Dumshee Scott, research chemist with the DuPont Co.,
Niagara Falls, N. Y.; and Mrs. Lin D. Cartwright, wife of the
editorial secretary of the Christian Board of Publication, St Louis,Mo.

Miss Ada C. Scott, missionary to Japan from 1916 to 1924, died in Des
Moines, Oct. 9. She was born at Iowa City, Ia., and held several
degrees from Darke University. She taught school before going to Japan
and after her return to the U.S.

Emma J. Scott
Services for Emma J. Scott, 88, of 1611 Twenty-seventh St., who died
Tuesday of a heart ailment at Ramsey Memorial Home, will be at 1 p.m.
Thursday at Dunn's Funeral Home on Grand Avenue. Burial will be at
Woodland Cemetery.
Born in Iowa city, she lived in Des Moines for 80 years and was a
registrar at Drake University until her retirement in 1952. She was a
graduate of Drake and a member of the First Christian Church.
There are no immediate survivors.

Mrs. B. M. Scott
Mrs. B. M. Scott (nee Alice Genevra Bennett) was born Dec. 7, 1855, in
Keokuk County, Iowa. On Aug. 10, 1873, she was married to Barclay M.
Scott, school teacher and minister. In 1890 they moved to Emmett
County, Iowa where they lived 32 years, following which they spent
nine years in California and moved to Ogden, Utah, in 1931.
Mrs. Scott, who died recently at the age of 65, at her home in Ogden,
was the mother of two daughters, Mrs. C. W. Clump, Des Moines, Iowa;
two sons, Richard Scott, Kremling, Calif. Also surviving are 11
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held, May 20, by Pastor H. H. Utterback, who was
also her pastor 30 years ago.

Retired Editor Marries
Announcement has been made of the marriage of Lin D. Cartwright former
editor of the Christian Evangelist to Mrs. Thelma Louise Hawkins of
Coffeyville, Kan. at Vine Street Church Nashville, Tenn., June 19.
The wedding service was performed by Roger T. Nooe, past president of
the International Convention of Christian Churches Disciples of
Christ. Mrs. Cartwright is a member of First Church, Coffeyville
where Dr. Cartwright was minister 1920-28.
Dr. and Mrs. Cartwright will make their home 5475 Cabana Ave. St.
Louis, after Aug. 1.
