George L. Shannon
                                            
  Word has  been  received here  of  the  death Saturday  in  St. Mary's  
  Hospital, Rochester, Minn. of  George L. Shannon  71, a Clinton county  
  native and well known here.
  
  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Immaculate Conception 
  church in Elma with  burial there. The  body is in  the Conway Funeral  
  Home at Elma.
  
  Mr. Shannon was born the  son of the late Thomas  L. and Annie Farrell  
  Shannon, born February 8, 1895 in Washington township, Clinton county. 
  He attended rural schools there and was graduated from Clinton Business 
  College. He was a World War I veteran and a member and past Commander of 
  the Elma American Legion Post. He retired  in 1965, after serving as a  
  rural mail carrier in Elma for 48 years.
  
  Surviving are his wife Clara; three sons, Paul of New Hampton, Jerry of 
  Racine. Wis. and Lee  of Elma; three daughters,  Jean Shannon and Mrs.  
  Robert (Rita) Boos of New Hampton and  Mrs. Gerald (Margery) Gansen of 
  Riceville; 21 grandchildren; three brothers,  Lewis of Detroit, Mich.,  
  Robert of Logansport, Ind. and P. Adrian of Chicago, Ill.; four sisters, 
  Mrs. M.  P.  (Grace) Ganzer,  Chicago,  Ill.; Mrs.  Chas.  E. (Evelyn)  
  Weinbeck, Mrs. Chas. (Irene) Maus and Mrs. Truman (Ruth) Bledsoe all of

	      George Shannon Funeral Held Here Thursday

A requiem mass was offered  in the Elma Immaculate Conception Catholic
church last Thursday morning for  George L. Shannon, 71, retired rural
mail carrier, who  died of a heart attack in  the Rochester St. Mary's
hospital June 25. Mr. Shannon had been in ill health the last year.

Offering  the   funeral  mass  was   the  pastor,  the   Rev.   Joseph
Weber. Burial was in the Calvary cemetery at Elma.

Six  grandsons of Mr.  Shannon served  as pallbearers,  including Tim,
Dean and Dale  Gansen and Tom, Terry and  Mark Shannon. Military rites
were  conducted at  the graveside.  Elma business  places  were closed
during the services.

Mr.  Shannon,  son  of  Mr.  and  Mrs. Thomas  Shannon,  was  born  at
Charlotte, February  8, 1895.  He attended the  Clinton county schools
and came to the Elma community in 1911.

He was  married to Clara  Elgas in Cedar  Rapids, July 8,  1919, after
having served as a private first class in World War I.

Mr. and Mrs. Shannon became the parents of seven children, six of whom
survive.  Mr. Shannon  served  as a  rural  mail carrier  in the  Elma
community for 47 years. He  was a member of the Immaculate Conception
church, the Elma fire department and the American Legion.

Surviving  Mr. Shannon  are  his wife;  six  children, including  Jean
Shannon  and   Paul  Shannon  of   New  Hampton,  Jerome   Shannon  of
Minneapolis,  Lee Shannon  of Elma,  Mrs. Gerald  Gansen of  Elma, and
Mrs. Robert Boos of New Hampton, and 21 grandchildren.

Also  surviving  are  three   brothers  and  four  sisters,  including
Mrs. Mike  Ganzer of  Chicago, Ill, Adrian  Shannon of  Chicago, Lewis
Shannon  of Detroit, Mich.,  Robert Shannon  of Logansport,  Ind., and
Mrs. Ruth Bledsoe, Mrs. Charles Weinbeck and Mrs. Charles Maus, all of
Clinton.

Preceding Mr. Shannon  in death were a daughter,  who died in infancy;
his father, who  died in Clinton in 1929, and his  mother, who died in
1935, and three brothers.

  Funeral services will be  held Tuesday in  St. Patrick;s church, Villa  
  Nova, for Walter T. Shannon, 66, of Chicago, who died Saturday in Downey 
  Veterans Hospital in Downey,  Ill. He was a  native of Clinton county.  
  Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. today at the Snyder Funeral Home, where 
  the rosary will be  recited at 8:00  p.m. The Rev.  Bernard Brugmen of  
  Charlotte will offer  a requiem  at high mass  at 10:00  a.m. at Villa  
  Nova, with burial  in the church  cemetery. Hanrahan  Funeral Home, De  
  Witt, is in charge of arrangements.
  
  Mr. Shannon was the son of the  late Thomas and Annie Farrell Shannon,  
  and was born in Washington township on  March 7, 1898. He had lived in  
  Chicago for many years. A Navy Veteran of World War I, he was a member 
  and past Commander of Carson Pirie Scott  Post 314, American Legion, a 
  member of the 40 and 8 Volture 220 and of the Past Commanders Club; also 
  a member of the  Knights of Columbus  and of the Holy  name Society of  
  Resurrection, all in Chicago.  He was unmarried.
  
  He is survived by four brothers, George L. of Elma, Lewis R. of Detroit, 
  Mich. Robert A. of Logansport, Indiana,  P. A. (Pat)  of Chicago; four  
  sisters, Mrs. Michael Ganzer of Chicago, Mrs. Charles (Evelyn) Weinbeck, 
  Mrs. Charles  (Irene)  Maus and  Mrs.  Truman (Ruth)  Bledsoe,  all of  
  Clinton; also nieces, nephews and cousins.

  Mrs. Ganzer, 75, of  2804 N. 4th  St. died this morning  at the Alverno  
  Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be  in Chicago. Visitation will be 
  from 3:00 p.m.  to 9:00  p.m. Wednesday  at Delaney  Funeral home with  
  Hanrahan Funeral Home, De Witt, in charge of the arrangements.
  
  Mrs. Ganzer was born April 29, 1901 in Washington township, the daughter 
  of Thomas and  Annie Farrell  Shannon. She  married Michael  P. Ganzer  
  February 17, 1930 in Clinton. She had lived in Chicago until returning 
  to Clinton in 1975.
  
  Survivors include three sons, Robert of Chicago, James of Wautosa, Wis. 
  and Richard of Cleveland, Ohio;  nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs.  
  Ruth Bledsoe and Mrs. Irene Maus, both of Clinton; three brothers, Lewis 
  Shannon of Brandywine,  Md., Robert  Shannon of  Logansport, Ind., and  
  Patrick (Adrian) Shannon of Chicago.
  
  She was preceded in death  by two brothers, George  and Walter and one  
  sister, Evelyn Weinbeck.

  Mrs. Charles (Evelyn)  Weinbeck Sr.  71, 1701 S.  5th St.  was dead on  
  arrival at Mercy Hospital Monday afternoon. (1/21/74) The funeral will 
  be at Sacred Heart church with Rev. E. J. Weeg officiating. Burial will 
  be at St. Patrick's cemetery Villa Nova. Visitation will be after 7 p.m. 
  today at Snell-Smith  Funeral home,  where the  parish rosary  will be  
  recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Members of  Amvets Auxiliary will meet at 
  7:30 p.m. Wednesday  at the funeral  home. Pallbearers  will be Harold  
  Hansen, H. O. Edenfield, Kent Schaley, Elmer Domsalla, Fred Domsalla and 
  Jack McGovern.
  
  Mrs. Weinbeck was born January 18, 1903 in Villa Nova, the daughter of  
  Thomas and Annie Farrell Shannon, She  married Charles E. Weinbeck Sr.  
  June 18, 1927 in Rock Island. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School 
  of Nursing in 1926 and was a member of Sacred Heart church, Mercy Nurses 
  Alumni and Amvets Auxiliary.
  
  Survivors include her husband; two sons, Chas. E. Jr. of Topeka, Kansas 
  and John  T.  of  Los Angeles,  California;  six  grandchildren; three  
  sisters, Mrs. Grace Ganzer of Chicago, Mrs. Ruth Bledsoe and Mrs. Irene 
  Maus, both of Clinton; three brothers, Lewis of Brandywine, Md., Robert 
  A. of Logansport, Ind. and Patrick Adrian  Shannon of Chicago. She was

  Mrs. Charles J.  (Irene) Maus,  73, of  the Borden  Manor care center,  
  formerly of 721  Park Place,  died today  February 11,  1981, in Mercy  
  Hospital.
  
  Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick's 
  church with the Rev. Joseph Kokjohn officiating. A prayer service will  
  precede the mass at  9:30 a.m. in  Delaney-Vulich Funeral Home. Burial  
  will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday. 
  A parish rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.
  
  Mrs. Maus was born January 18, 1908 in De Witt, daughter of Thomas and 
  Annie Farrell Shannon. She married Charles J. Maus. He died in 1967. She 
  graduated from Mt. Mercy  High School, Cedar Rapids  and was in nurses  
  training at Columbus Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She was employed as a 
  nurse's aide and Licensed Practical Nurse  at Mercy hospital until her  
  retirement in 1964.
  Survivors include  a  sister,  Mrs Ruth  Bledsoe  of  Clinton  and two  
  brothers, Lewis of Branywine, Md. and Robert of Logansport, Indiana. She 
  was preceded in death by her husband,  two sisters Evelyn Weinbeck and 
  Grace Ganzer and three brothers, George, Walter and Adrian.

  Catholic church for Ruth S. Bledsoe, 83, formerly of 3525 Cleveland St., 
  who died Thursday in The Alverno in Clinton.
  The Rev. George Hoenig will officiate. The  mass will be preceded by a  
  10:00  a.m.  prayer  service  in  the  Delaney  Vulich  Funeral  Home.  
  Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home where a 
  St. Irenaeus Parish Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Burial will be at 
  Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
  Mrs. Bledsoe was born October 31, 1903 in Clinton county, to Thomas and 
  Ann Farrell Shannon. She married Truman Bledsoe May 2, 1928 in Chicago. 
  he died in 1945. She joined the staff of the Clinton Herald in 1945 as a 
  regional newswriter.  In 1954,  she became  the police  and courthouse  
  reporter and 10 years later was named news editor, a post she held until 
  her retirement January 1, 1971.
  Mrs. Bledsoe was a frequent news award winner and was active in the Iowa 
  Press Women, National Federation of Press Women and the Iowa Association 
  of City Editors. She was a member of St. Irenaeus Catholic church, was a 
  past president  of Amvets  Auxiliary and  the Clinton  Wa-tan-ye Club.  
  Survivors include a son, Truman C. of Clinton: six grandchildren and a 
  brother, Lewis  of Carlisle,  Pa. She  was preceded  in death  by four  
  brothers and three sisters.

  Lewis R. Shannon,  84 of  Gainesville, Fla.  formerly of  DeWitt, died  
  Monday in Gainesville.
  
  Mass of the  Christian Burial  was today  in Gainesville.  A graveside  
  service will be 10 a.m. Friday in  St. Patrick's Cemetery, Villa Nova, 
  Iowa with the Rev. Thomas Doyle,  St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clinton,  
  officiating. There will be no local visitation. Delaney-Vulich Funeral  
  Home, Clinton, is in charge of local arrangements.
  
  Mr. Shannon was born December 20, 1905, in DeWitt, to Thomas R. and Anne 
  Farrell Shannon. He  married Grace Connell.  She died in  1970. He was  
  employed as an advertising manager with Ford Farm and Implement Company, 
  until his retirement. Mr. Shannon was a  member of the Catholic faith, 
  and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
  
  Survivors include four daughters, Marge  Snorren of Gainesville, Fla.,  
  Patricia Ann Geisler of Grafton, Ohio, Maureen Sue Debbaut of LaPlata,  
  Md. and Sister Judith Shannon of  Carlisle, Pa.: 10 grandchildren; and

  Mrs. Shannon was the former Grace Connell, born in Janesville, Wis. She 
  married Lewis Shannon, formerly of Clinton, in June 1933.
