Father: Andrew TROGER (-1891)
Mother: Catherine MACHT (1826-1911)
Rose Ann's mother, Catherine, was born in Bavaria in 1826.
Catherine immigrated in 1844. She and Andrew were married
August 1, 1847 in Pittsburg, Pa. About five years later they
came to Iowa and settled on a farm about three miles south of
Millersburg, where they lived until 1895 when she moved to North
English. There were eleven children in the Troger family,
including three who died in infancy.
According to Alice (Morrison) Mahannah,
besides farming, Andrew Troger was also a fine cabinet maker.
Rose Ann's sister Emma had an organ which Andrew had made,
in addition to several chests, etc.
Emma was close to Alice after Rose Ann died. Alice also wrote
that her Grandmother (Catherine) ``spoke no English but she was a
sweet little lady with a worn out body from hard manual labor she
had done before she came to this country.''
Rose Ann's obituary said the following of Rose Ann:
She was a good, kind, affectionate wife and mother. During a long and
painful illness of two and a half years she showed great patience and
fortitude; thinking, planning and sacrificing for the best welfare of
her loved ones.
