Armentrout copyright 2002 Decadent societies, built on the basis of unrestrained freedom and liberty, pave the way for totalitarian governments. America refuses to be governed by God. Instead we have decided that everyone should be free to do whatever is right in his/her own eyes. But when this happens, people become barbaric in their treatment of others. Ironically, the freedom they seek brings rampant violence, decadence, and disease which leaves them no choice but to turn for help to the government. In their effort to be free of government they created a monster. People who live according to whatever is right in their own eyes soon discover how evil are the hearts of men. They soon demand that government restrain antisocial behavior. It isn't long before a bureaucracy, which they created to deal with the problems, becomes a repressive, totalitarian government where civil rights and liberties are eliminated to gain control of the citizenry. What they thought would "set them free," in the final analysis, brought them into totalitarian bondage. True freedom can only occur when God controls our hearts. He is the One who turns us from evil and leads us in righteousness. He is the One who puts true, benevolent love into our hearts so that we may truly, love our neighbor as our self. The choice is ours, either we will live under a totalitarian, unloving iron-fisted government, or we will live under the guidance of a loving, caring, benevolent God. Choose wisely! |
