KC

What is KC?
KC is a computerized version of King's Court (aka Super Checkers), which is (apparently) the official sequel to Checkers.

What does it run on?

The current build is compiled for a 486, and requires a video card capable of 640x480 pixels at an 8-bit color depth. Plain old VGA.
A joystick or gamepad is optional but not required. Mice aren't supported yet.
I've also heard that the executable can run on a 486 "as is". I have no way of testing this, I never had a 386... at the time I was still hacking away on my C-64.

Can I have the source code?

Sure, it's included in the compressed archive. I haven't seen it in months, but I remember it was... okay for a first project, but way below professional.

What compiler do you use?

I used gcc 2.8.1, as part of Allego 3.0 , an extention to DJGPP 2.1. Actually, I have some components of DJGPP 2.0 and some of 2.1.
That is not a Good Thing, but it works. Usually.
The thing is that gcc 2.7.x.x and 2.8.1 seem to have small binary incompatibilities which cause random "crashes", SIGSERVs, I believe, is the correct technical term for what happens. The obvious thing to do is to re-compile Allegro and KC with the same compiler, however, I realised this after I had rm - rvf'd my FAT partitions, and sworn never to develop under DOS again.

When will it be finished?

It's finished. I will not work on it anymore in the near future, if ever.

Where can I get it?

You can get both source code and the 486 binary  Here, in a ~440K GNU tar'd and gz'd archive. Enjoy, it's at least a fully playable game now, but it lacks bells and whisles. Oh, well, on to (bigger || better) things.

How can I contact you?

The easiest way is by emailing granitor@hotmail.com.
However, I don't check that too often, be prepared to wait a few weeks for a reply.

I don't care about copyrights much, but I think King's Court is "© 1989 Western Publishing Company, Inc. All Rights Reserved" KC is not King's Court. KC and this page are CopyLeft, or something. All Lefts Preserved. Muhahahahahaha. Genjuro in Samauri Showdown 4 simply rules. If you can read this, you must eithe rbe using Lynx or the source. Like what you see?
