I am thinking of using this logo, I will make it with a transparent background.
My Butterfly Animation

This animation of the butterfly is something I wanted to create to use as a new logo on my site. Notice the settings at the bottom of the frames, set to 50 in the first frame and 90 in the second frame. This allows the reader of the page to see the writing underneath for a longer period of time before the animation starts again.
I knew I wanted a butterfly but not just your standard hum-drum colors, I worked with the "Layers" tool, taking various sizes and colors of the same butterfly style. Placing each of them on separate layers, I changed the " Blend mode setting on the layer" to burn, blend, normal, difference, soft light, changing and messing around with different colors, using the colorize, in Paint Shop Pro. I deleted layers and re-arranged layers.
Each time I moved a layer slider, or changed a layer "blend mode" I saved it as PSP extension, in a folder called butterfly's, adding a different alphabetical letter to each save. I finally settled on 2 each pictures with "difference" blend mode a copy of one of those set to "soft light" blend mode, along with my original layer set to normal, for a total of 4 layers, instead of the (7) layers I started with. Getting to the final process can sometimes be time consuming, and sometimes it just turns into a mistake and that can be a usable item too.
Once I came up with the overall final product, I again saved as a PSP extension, then a gif format with still another new name(mkwbutterfly1.psp and mwkbutterfly1.gif). I did not reduce it from 16 million colors as I needed to create another image for the animation process.
NOTE:Saving this all of these with "PSP extensions" allow me to change the picture over and over again, if I choose, to make all new butterfly's in the future. (Saves me time from having to recreating it again as well as remembering what I did.)
I then "removed" the lower wing using the "Lasso tool" set to "point to point" and once selected hit the "clear button". I then filled in the body parts that were missing to create the body of the butterfly that looked like its wing's were together, I saved this with a new name (mkwbutterfly2.psp and mkwbutterfly2.gif) so that I would have two different pictures as seen above used in my animation. I took it to animation shop, and ran it through the wizard as previously discussed in the lesson. Once I saw what I liked I went back and reduced the colors to 256 colors, ran it through animation again, and Voila' there it is at the top of the page.
Now my animation is complete and I am still able to go back and reuse this
same butterfly to create different colors of the same item, due to the PSP extension
put in the PSP program by Jasc.
I am still learning to work with animations I have not quite gotten a handle on the 'download' compression factor. What I have learned is that to many graphics (including animation) on one page, can create a very slow loading page.
Animation of Bones | |

![]() | October 1998, I was a participant in a Halloween contest. I was interested in sending in a graphic picture for this contest, but having no artistic ability, I knew I couldn't possibly compete with the other "Artists", so as I was also working to learn animation I sent in this Image.
I am not a "Natural Born Artist" nor do I have a multitude of ability with graphics, I see and learn by trial and error and by attending classes. I can however see objects or designs within the things I work with. I can take an object and create from there. In one of my classes in October, 1998 a 5th Power class we were doing a lesson called "Satin Text" I saw what looked like bones and that set this animation into existence. See Satin Text creation at

While I was in the Animation program that comes as a part of Paint Shop Pro 5 & 6, I discovered that a part of the program will add colors in the background without changing your original item. This was very interesting. So I took the bone graphics from above and added this background colorization and created this animation. Unfortunately it also makes the file larger and I am now learning to compress it. |
