Those Victorians!  A meaning for everything and everything with a meaning! Though it's true that a "rose by any other name would still smell as sweet", in Victorian times, one had to be quite aware of not only the flower, but in the case of roses, the color!  A suitor would never want to make the incredible faux pax of presenting his mother-in-law with a bouquet of coral colored roses!

The Meaning of the Rose

Light Pink Grace and Joy
Dark Pink Thankfulness
Yellow Joy and Friendship
White Innocence and Secrecy
Lavender Enchantment
Coral Desire
Peach Modesty
Orange Fascination
and of course!Red Love and Respect
