Romanescu: The fractal cabbage
First time I had a romanescu in my hands I couldn't believe that it was
a live and eatable organism. But it is, it's similar to a cauliflower,
with a milder taste.
As seen on images, the flower is made of spirals. Every element of
these spirals can be a spiral too, if the element reaches enough
size. I have counted four levels of recursivity.
Image gallery
These images have been obtained using a scanner, putting the romanescu
directly on the glass. It's not the best photographic technique (bad focus
of areas away from the glass, and geometric distortion). You can see parts
of the flower squashed against the glass. The last image is a section of
the flower.
These have been taken with a 35 mm camera, and winter sun.
These have been taken modifying sligthly position of the camera. Maybe
could be used to make stereograms.
