CPT Sakamoto, taking a ride on the flagship of "McCarroll's Navy." We built this cabined runabout from a Pontoon Boat, plywood, windshields from a 3/4 ton truck, and two 25 hp Chrysler outboards. The source of all of these items 'still remains classified.' Coupled with some snorkeling equipment from Special Services, our sailboat, the South China Sea and Hon Tre Island, we had our Sunday afternoons made for us.

This is the view down the sidewalk where our Senior NCOs lived in Nha Trang. Looks like a UH-1 Huey in the background, a familiar sight and sound in those days. The hills in the distance provided their own source of entertainment. That's where most of our incoming rockets and mortars originated.

When we passed the Buddha, we were either on our way or almost home, depending on our direction. Rumor had it that, during Tet of 68, some VC hid in the base of this statue, and the South Koreans cemented all the doors shut.

We rode jeeps, trucks, Lambrettas, and airplanes and helicopters of all descriptions. We rode cyclos, basically a basket strapped to the front of a bicycle. We had our own boats, hitched rides on the Navy's vessels and flew on Air America, usually with the door open. But, to the best of my recollection, we did not ride any water buffalo.
