march 20, 2001 i just recently watched john water's hairspray for the first time in like 4 years. okay is it me or is that movie the best! it's absolutely insane to start off with and wet your pants funny! and you really can't go wrong by casting debbie harry as velma von tussle and sliding ric ocasek in too. my favorite scene has to be the "beatnik poets" one where the gang ends up in the two cool cats digs (it's total catdog heaven!) and they're reading allen ginsburg's howl. so funny! anyone who hasn't seen this needs to run out and pick it up for immediate viewing pleasure! i also felt a little wacky one night so i decided to throw on my own private idaho. i forgot how screwed up this flick is! almost to the point where it is uncomfortable watching it. but alas i got through another viewing and was enlightened, disturbed and hot for river like never before. this movie is not for everyone defiantly but it's great if you can stand the arrogance of it all. that's right you heard me: arrogance. that's one thing i really noticed about the film. but it's still good. no worries. we're all friends again. |
