april 12, 2001 i've rediscovered yet another one of my older cd's waiting to be listened to again. this time around i reclaimed lush's *split*. while i was driving one night. it took me back. the story: loved *spooky, gala and split* disappointed with *lovelife*, forgot about the band for a while. anyways i've been missing out on a fantastic peice of work. i was discussing *split* with a pal, robyn and her opinion was that *spooky* was their best album hands down because of it's overall darkness. but i sitck to my opinion that *split* infact is a better album as a whole. reason being: *split* is full and whole, it takes you through a journey similar to human emotions. from the pretty pop songs like hypercrite to the angrier songs like blackout to yes even the desperately bleak songs like desire lines. it's full and there's a little of everything. as a whole this album is unstoppable. my favorites: light from a dead star and undertow. in preperation for the concert, i've been listening to a lot of arab strap's new album, *the red thread*. this album is deliciously creepy. it could make a nun feel sinsiter. hmmm why do i find myself loving this album so much let's see...could it possibly be the overpowering beats, aidan moffat's sexy moan-like vocals or maybe it's the overall erotic vibe? hmm well it's a mystery! (read: sarcasim) anyways you must check out the epic that is the long sea and haunt me. a great example of their overall power they hold on anyone who hears them. i think this could possible be one of the best albums out there. seriously. *i can hear the heart beting as one* by yo la tengo is a masterpeice! similar to *keep it like a secret* (read: built to spill), this album is never far from my stereo. song after song, there is not one weak tune on here! and the distance it travels, like a long road trip, you visit every possible place imaginable. picking a song is crazy hard but i think i'm going to go with moby octopad, green arow and stockholm syndrome. |
