may 10, 2001 black eyed peas. *behind the front* is hands down one of the most incredible albums i own to date. i was joking with a friend of mine; that i should look into become one of their promotion people because i am always trying to get new people to tune into this masterpiece. why dawn is this a masterpiece? well it's hard to put into words but i think it's the overall feel to the record. the best word for it is "organic". everything on the album is an actual instrument being played with the exception of the dj (for scratching purposes). from the thickest bass lines to a funky recorder (read: plastic flute like device that you used to have to play in sixth grade). and here's the best part...they rarely sample anything (the dj) but instead SING the samples. it's brilliant. take my word for it...or better yet why don't you check out these tracks: positivity, be free, A8 and clap your hands. oh and grease lovers might enjoy joints and jams. see i just dont know when to stop when it comes to this album. i love it. i've been listening a lot to pavement's *crooked rain crooked rain* as of late. i think it's reclaimed it's postion as one of my summer albums. so as soon as the ice was thawed and the sun was out, out she came like she was never gone. i think everyone i've ever met loved this album and i guess i'm just one of the masses but so be it. this album is just great, no explanation needed really. the songs that should definitely be on your playlist: range life, gold soundz, and unfair. brilliant! i just want to shout i love *fun trick noisemaker* by the apples in stereo! one of my all time favorite albums! first off this record contains three things: 1) dots 1-2-3 2) love you alice/d 3) wait a second ALL the songs are good! if you're new to the apples and you're looking for a cheap thrill look no further. all their albums are great but i find this one exceptionally super-fantastic. total pop without all the bullshit. you've got to check out love you alice/d my all-time favorite apples song! |
