In life, Hanako was one of Japan's most beloved seiyuu, and personalities. Her talent was scouted at a young age; while doing various voices in a play. Though her career was cut short by her sudden death, to her credit she given voice to nearly 200 characters in anime, dramas and computer games.

Behind that charming, bubbly girl was a tragic, lonely woman screaming to break free. Hanako was born mentally retarded, leaving her with the mentality of an eight year old, and was classed as legally disabled. Though she tried to keep up with those around her, she always fell short. Those who didn't know her classed her as an idiot. Her life may have been easier if she had been born with the usual physical aspects that acompany the disease.

Her older sister, Shouka, was her care-taker and manager. She always kept a close eye on Hanako, and those around her. Hanako was her life, her reason for being. She believed she was the only one who could care for her sister properly. In her bid to protect her from the nasty world, she kept her dressed in clothes reflecting Hanako's state of mind, rather than her body. Shouka also treated her sister as a helpless child, not thinking to teach her anything useful. To her Hanako may as well have been eight. This left Hana-chan frustrated and confused. She couldn't articulate that nagging sensation, but she knew she wanted more - but she didn't dare tell her big sister, those intimate conversation were for zoo animals and nice ducks by ponds.

One wintery early January, Shouka treated Hanako to a trip to the United States of America. Their first stop was New York city. Once again Hanako was frustrated. Shouka wouldn't let her play, or sight-see yet, and just as they'd got to their room she announced she had business to take care of. Rather than stay and watch cartoons, Hanako escaped the room, to come across a fun pink bunny named Kumagorou and his friend, Ryu-chan. After playing and talking with Ryuichi he asked her to marry him. She accepted, and that day the two wed.

Shouka freaked out when she found them in bed, assuming Ryuichi had raped her. Ryuichi had promised Hanako to show her the world, and true to his word he did. For the next six months he showed her every corner of the globe. As an experienced adventurer, he was happy to have someone, besides Kumagorou, to share it with. All the while they were hunted by the furious Shouka, and the bloody-thirsty K, angered that his lovely ex-client would be so mean as to get married and no invite him!

Hanako was heavily pregnant, just approaching her third trimester. Ryuichi decided it was best to end their honeymoon adventure and head back to Japan. When they reached Tokyo they parted ways - so he could attempt to reason with K, and so she could meet Shuichi and Yuki, whom Ryuichi assured her would make the best godparents; "Shu-chan is fun, and Yuki-san is an adult!" Arriving unanounced they had no idea who she was...or that Sakuma-san had even gotten married! They (including Tatsuha, who was mooching off Eiri for the week) assumed she his sister or cousin, and entertained her with karaoke and Disney movies. Shuichi thought there was something familiar about the girl...that's when he heard her sing a Hanako Morita song, and it all came together. She had to be Hanako Morita! But why wasn't she dressed in her typical cute clothes, and presenting herself as a Sakuma?! That would have to mean she was Sakuma-san's...no way...!

K and Ryuichi suddenly bursted into the apartment. Ryuichi was able to save their skins by telling him of their plan to marry again in Tokyo Disney Land. Their ambition was to hold a live televised concert featuring the seiyuu of her world, and the musicians of his world, those of NG Productions. That afternoon they told Tohma of their idea, as well as show off his bride and unborn child. Unfortunately Mika, mourning the recent lloss of unborn child, was there to hear their good fortune.

While K was satisfied, Shouka wasn't. When she caught up with them she attempted to take her sister away. Hanako refused to go. Stressed, and anxious she tried her best to explain that she wanted to stay with her husband, and raise their precious baby. Shouka blamed Ryuichi for her behaviour. The strain of the ordeal sent Hanako into premature labour. She gave birth to a baby girl, Ryuko, small, but healthy. Because she was early she stuck with a sleeping disorder, in the way a person is irritable when not had enough sleep, she had the same effect, and foud it difficult to sleep. Ryuichi affectionately reffered her as his "Sleepless Beauty".

Hanako was ever so proud of her baby. Her eyes were two large emeralds, just like her's, and she looked just like had daddy. In September their dream concert was held. Everyone had a blast, and were overjoyed when it came time for the renewal of their marital vows. This time it meant so much for them. This time they knew each other well, had a real, true love and all their friends (and Japan!) to share it with.

Their future looked PIKA! PIKA!

Tragedy struck that Christmas evening. Tragically, the couple died in a limousine accident on their way to Tohma Seguchi's Christmas party. Their baby was the only survivor. Hanako and Ryuichi were mourned greatly.

But legends are never forgotten. The nature of legends is to inspire. Their great gifts of music, entertainment, memories and friendship remain on the earth, in the hearts of those who knew them, and those who were touched by them.

REST IN PEACE, HANAKO MORITA-SAKUMA, YOU'VE EARNED IT.
