Her parents were dreamers; actors who always tried their best, but also landed minor roles on stage. As actors they were used to crummy lives, with tiny apartments, and waiting on tables, but they were the ever optomists. Shortly after Shouka's birth they gambled all their savings on opening their own small theatre.

It paid off. The theatre grew in popularity and size each year - as well as their bank balances. So when Hanako came along, in obvious need of special care they were able to pay for her to attend a specialty school.

Shouka grew to be an intelligent, sofisticated, popular teenager. She was always energetic, however she her mood always soured when she got home. She resented Hanako and her special needs. She got in the way of her life, and so always referred to her as "the Chore".

Sweet, dumb, little Hana-chan followed her around like a pup. She'd even stand outside of Shouka's door for hours, waiting for her to go to the park with her.

The sisters' life shattered one evening when their parents died in a fire, burnt to cinders, along with their precious theatre.

Shouka (aged 17), who'd spent her life in her own little world, was dealt the most devastating blow. She couldn't handle it and delved into deep depression. Hanako became her strength, caring for her emotionally till she was able to find her own strength to focus again.

From then on her priorities changed. She went from intensely focussing on herself to intensely focussing on Hanako. They lived off of their parents' life insurance, and what money they could recover from the theatre's insurance, as Shouka finished high school.

Shouka gave up her place at university to be Hanako's carer. While Hana did her schooling, Shouka did odd-jobs, nothing you'd call a career.

Their lives took another change when at only age 16 Hanako was scouted by an anime recording agency and signed her up immediately. You see, as a "special" person, Shouka was advised Hanako should be enroled in a fun, after school activity where she could find ways to express herself in her special way. What better way than to enrole her in a community theatre troup? Of course she was always there watching, making sure no one tried anything inappropriate.

Hana-chan was (not surprisingly) an instant success. She enjoyed making new friends, and her work was so much fun! Shouka was naturally her manager, and reduced to a quiet life as Hanako's shadow. Her hopes and aspirations were all for Hanako. Along the way she'd given up on herself.

When her sister, who'd she'd given her life to, abruptly married and abandoned (in other words, made her own life) her she was devastated once again, but came appreciate Hanako's happiness - even if she despised the bastard rapist.

Shouka's still that immature teenager who sees everything as black and white, and believes her way is the only way. However, she's also such a sad case; so lost and confused, without identity. She clings to Ryuko because she has no one else, she doesn't even have herself.

When Hanako had returned she'd convinced Shouka to go on caring for others, because she always took such good care of her. So, even after Hanako's death, she stayed committed with Hana's request, earnt all her degrees and became a worker at the special school Hanako attended as a child and teenager.

Today she is not only a worker, but also the principal, which is why you'll usually catch her in business attire - and why she hasn't had a date or social life since her teens.
