I became interested in tying flies from the moment I took up fly fishing. These little works of art fashioned from nothing more than pinches of fur with a feather tied round them were fascinating. Nobody I knew initially either tied or were interested in tying so I bought a book to learn more. It didn't appear to be rocket science so at the Angling Fair I bought a "kit" with some tools and a mixture of materials in it.
At home I set about fashioning all manner of monstrosities with huge heads and badly proportioned bodies/tails/wings. I also had to contend with continually snapping the thread as I either caught it on the hook or simply pulled it to hard. Initially the hooks and materials seemed way too small and my fingers way too big however as with all the problems you encounter when you try anything new-practice makes perfect.
