CKC REGULATIONS RE: SALE OF
PUREBRED PUPPIES
The sale of pure-bred dogs is regulated by the Government of Canada Animal Pedigree Act.
The Canadian Kennel Club
is the registering body. The rules state (in part):

It is illegal, in Canada, to sell a dog as pure-bred without supplying
registration papers at no extra cost to the buyer. Registration for puppies, though not complete
at the time of the sale, must be provided for within six months following the date of sale.
For registration purposes, the breeder must identify the dog he is selling.
That identification can be either a micro-computer chip or a tattoo. This makes it
possible to distinguish one dog from another of the same breed and sex. The breeder is
responsible for identifying the dog before the puppy leaves the premises.

There is much more to CKC regulations and breeding.
These points are what will most affect you as the purchaser.
