Ankh-Morpork

Ankh-Morpork, one of the greatest cities on the Disc, home to many of its main characters and ruled over by the Patrician, is in addition a city so dirty people avoid looking down and so crime-filled that even the thieves and assassins have a guild (though this in fact has cut down on crime, really). The city is composed of two separate sectors. Ankh, found on one side of the River Ankh, and Morpork, the other. Ankh-Morpork is located at the edge of the Sto plains, near the Circle Sea.

population: about 1 million

exports: manufactured goods, and processed animal and vegetable products

It is the oldest and largest city on the Disc.

Guilds:

Ankh-Morpork has an incredibly complicated guild system, with a guild for nearly every profession imaginable (including a dog guild and an assassin's guild.) There are believed to be over three hundred different guilds currently in existence. I, of course, have not listed them all, but have instead chosen some of the more prominent guilds and put them here.

The Unseen University

The Unseen University, center of magical learning for the entire world is situated in Ankh-Morpork. There is no actual map, however, for the university itself, as it contains so much magic that no one is really quite sure what it looks like. The current Arch-Chancellor or the university is Chancellor Ridcully, who has gotten rid of the practice of moving up in rank by forcefully (and usually lethally) removing your superior and he is the type of superior who would shoot a crossbow across the hallway into a target over your head.
