The Atonement
According the Hero’s Journey packet, the Atonement is where we are “reborn” and are brought into harmony with life and the world. As it has been said earlier, Mrs. Glass lacks the intellect to nurse Franny through this breakdown, and is what Franny is afraid to end up being. However, she deserves respect in accordance to what Franny has just learned. The chicken soup she constantly offered her daughter obviously does not represent intellect, but it is a sign of a caring mother, who is trying to give the only kind of condolence she knows how; love and support. This for itself is holy, and the same type of holiness that Franny wished to get out of the Jesus Prayer. Just as Franny must love and respect her mother, she must love and respect her audiences and professors and the Fat Lady.
