What Is Relay?

The Relay for Life is a unique, challenging and fun way to raise money for the American Cancer Society.  The Relay will be held on Friday, May 16th, and Saturday, May 17th at Milford High School's Track and Field.

Participants in the overnight event will include teams of individuals from the Greater Milford area.  Team size is recommended at between 8 and 12 people.  Each team competes against each other to raise the most money and to travel the most miles around the track.  The goal is to have a representative of each team on the track at all times during the event.

Event registration will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, May 16th.  Participants are encouraged to come early with sleeping bags and tents and to stay and enjoy the festive atmosphere for the entire event.  Teams that sign on include corporations, hospitals, civic groups, friends, and families.

The relay opening ceremony will take place at 7:00 pm with cancer survivors walking our opening lap, and participating in  survivor festivities.  From 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, there will be entertainment.  At 9:00 pm, a luminary (candlelight ceremony), will be held to honor all who have encountered cancer.  The candles will remain burning until the early morning hours, lighting the way for team members as they walk their laps throughout the night.

Saturday's line-up will include music, fun, and games for all to enjoy.  At 12:00 pm, the closing ceremonies will be conducted, and an award will be given to the teams that raise the most money, and have the most spirit.

The participation fee is $10 per team member to cover the cost of participants' t-shirts, and other materials.  This is a charitable event, and each team member is required to raise at least $100.  Last year, over 2,000 participants of the Greater Milford Relay raised over $180,000.  With help, we can do so much more to be used towards research, education, and service.
