Episode Zero Act 4: Quatre Raberba Winner

The meeting with the Maganac that would change Quatre's destiny.

When the colonies were first constructed, the women lived a hard life due to the unnatural enivironment in space. They also suffered from abnormalities of the reproductive system. It became illegal to have children except as test tube babies. This problem was finally conquered and women could bear children naturally again, starting in A.C. 100, when colony life became more stable.

A.C. 180

[A woman was in bed, surrounded by medical equipment. A doctor and nurse were monitoring things. Mr. Winner held a crying newborn infant.*

However, the Winner family, who had been in space since the colonies were first developed, still experienced reproductive abnormalities.

Mr. Winner: I don't know any other woman as rash as you... You knew that giving birth to this child would cost you your life.

Quaterine: [Looking like Quatre] But... I wanted to have your child...

Mr. Winner: ...Quaterine.

Quaterine: [Closed her eyes]

Doctor: She's passed away.

Quatre: Waaa! Waaa!

Mr. Winner: Quatre, take a good look. Your mother was a proud and strong woman...

Shinkidousenki Gundam Wing Episode Zero, Act 4: Quatre Raberba Winner

A.C. 193

[A shuttle was flying towards Earth. A man in a suit sat beside a younger Quatre.]

Man: We'll arrive on Earth soon, Quatre-sama.

Quatre: Yeah...

Quatre: It's a boring planet. After all, it just happened to naturally produce primordial mold. But even then ... [Thinking: that's better than what I am.]

[In the cockpit, an instrument panel begins to beep.]

Pilot: Wh-what's that?!

Rasid: [Appearing on the view screen.] Your shuttle has been completely surrounded. Follow our instructions and don't give us any trouble.

Other Pilot: Who are you?!

[Shuttle was surrounded by spaceships]

Rasid: We are Maguanacs! If you resist, we'll fire!

Pilot: [Talk to Quatre, who appeared bored anddidn't even look at him] They appear to have captured four of the Winner family's ships. Right now they're taking us and heading to the resource satellite MO-III!

Man in suit: What should we do, Quatre-sama?

Quatre: ...It has nothing to do with me.

Man: [Sweat dropped] Huh?

Quatre: [Leaned back in his seat with his eyes closed.] I'm going to take a nap. Wake me up when we get there.

Both men: [Sweatdropped] ......

[Inside the cockpit.]

Other Pilot: He's sleeping?!

Pilot: Yeah.

Pilot: I guess that's the kind of attitude we should expect from the next head of the Winner family, but the way he looks down on people.....

Other Pilot: Hn. There's no help for it, he's a Winner, born out of a test tube.

Quatre: [Sleeping]

Resource Satellite MO-III

[Shot of a satellite]

This satellite was put up for Earth, and the laborers were all recruited from Earth. However, most of them were unemployed people and those who held anti-Federation beliefs. The actual circumstances were that they were in detention on the satellite, without even receiving proper pay.

[Shot of some Maganac Mobile Suits.]

[Some Maganacs were guarding the pilot, other pilot, and man in the suit, who are all tied together.]

Rasid: Hurry up! We have to be out of here before the Federation gets here!

Quatre: I'm Quatre Raberba Winner.

Rasid: I don't feel like giving you my name. What do you want?

Quatre: What do you intend to do with us?

Auda: You're a hostage. Until we can escape from here.

Quatre: Sorry, but I don't have any value, except as a collection of organic chemicals. I don't think I'll be much use as a hostage.

Quatre: No one loves me, and I don't love anyone. And...

Quatre: they can make as many of me as they want.

[Rasid was negotiating with Mr. Winner, who appeared on a big screen.]

Rasid: We're taking the workers here back to Earth. I intend to reunite them with their families.

Mr. Winner: I understand and I accept your conditions. You will have free use of all the Winner resources there. We will also try to stop the Federation from pursuing you.

Rasid: Thanks. Winner-sama, you're a good man.

Mr. Winner: May I speak with my son for a moment?

Rasid: Oh, sure.

Quatre: What is it?

Mr. Winner: What are you doing there?

Quatre: [Almost smiling, looking sad but defiant.] You're surprised that one of your tools did something on its own, aren't you?

Mr. Winner: You... You're still talking like that?!

Quatre: [Upset] Of course! You just created me and my sisters to suit the needs of the Winner family! Because you wanted people who would do exactly as you told them to!

Mr. Winner: Quatre! That's not true!

Quatre: [Clenched his fist] I'll prove it to you!

Quatre: I'll prove that even people like us can think for ourselves and do things ourselves and talk for ourselves!

Mr. Winner: Is that why you're running away to Earth?

Quatre: What's wrong with that?!

[A hand grabbed Quatre by the shoulder. Rasid slapped him hard across the face.]

Quatre: [Held a hand up to the mark on his face] Wh ... what did you do that for?!

Rasid: I don't know what your situation is, but have a little more pride in yourself.

Quatre: ?!

Rasid: I... I was also born out of a test tube.

Quatre: [Stared at Rasid]

[Back at the Winner home.]

Mr. Winner: ...That disrespectful, disobedient son...

Iria: You've never told him, have you, father.

Iria: It was because of him that mother died... If he knew that, his heart would probably be even more troubled.

Mr. Winner: That's not it, Iria.

Iria: Oh?

Mr. Winner: There's no reason to speak of being created out of a test tube or otherwise! You are all my children.

Iria: We are grateful to have a father like you. But... [Looked at a photograph of little Quatre hanging happily on his father's arm.]

Iria: Quatre takes after you; he's a kind child...

Mr. Winner: Hn.

[Ahmad was herding workers along inside the satellite]

Ahmad: No need to panic, but please move quickly.

[Quatre watched from a balcony with Professor H.]

Professor H.: They're unusual men. It's not like we asked for their help, but they came to rescue us anyway.

Professor H.: In times like these, many people are made to suffer. These men intend to rescue every single victim...

Quatre: Why... why do they do it?

Professor H.: I don't know. But that man called Rasid said it was a matter of pride.

Quatre: [Surprised] Pride?

Professor H.: Whatever their circumstances, everyone who has life should live in a way that they can be proud of themselves. He said that's how the Maguanacs live.

Quatre: I wonder, were they all born from test tubes...?

Professor H.: Yeah. I guess that's why they call themselves Maguanacs. No other men are as pure and kind as they are.

Professor H.: Like you.

Quatre: .....

Professor H.: [Walked away.] Well, I guess I'm going.

Quatre: Uh, where are you going? The ship that's going to Earth is this way. [Pointed at the right direction]

Professor H.: Hey, I'm a certified mad scientist you know. I couldn't live on the Earth.

Professor H.: I just might end up hiding out in your home. When that time comes, I'm counting on you, hm?

Quatre: [Watched him leave.] .....

Traitor of the Maguanacs: [Hid around a corner and was talking into a radio device.] This is Iskariot. I'll inform you our location.

Quatre: [Saw whose conversation he was overhearing.]

[Three huge spaceships outside. They looked as though there for an important purpose. ]

Spaceship: This is the Federation Army Cosmo Arm.

[Maguanacs listened to the broadcast, they appeared angry.]

Spaceship: Cease any useless resistance and surrender peacefully. Hostages mean nothing to us. We have orders to attack, regardless of who is aboard.

Abdul: How did they know where we were?

Ahmad: That was way too fast for them to find us!

Rasid: All right! Launch the spaceships as soon as possible! Maguanacs, prepare for battle!

Quatre: You have one missing.

[Quatre with the traitor, who was tied up.]

Rasid: Judas?!

Judas: .......
Quatre: He was using this to transmit information... [Showed out the radio.]

Rasid: Judas... You gave out our location?

Maguanac: You scum, you sold us out to the Federation?!

Judas: I'm just trying to take care of myself!!

Audah: [Grabbed the traitor by his vest.] You bastard!!

Ahmad: Stop it! He's not part of our family anymore.

Rasid: [To Quatre] Thanks.

Quatre: No need to thank.

Quatre: I was just thinking about myself.

Rasid: ....You have a much better look in your eyes now.

[Judas lunged for Audah's gun.]

[Quatre was alarmed]

Quatre: Look out! [Ran in front of Rasid and pushed him out of the way.]

[Judas fired at Rasid. It hit Quatre on the shoulder, and Rasid in the upper chest.]

Quatre: [Clutching his shoulder, eyes squeezed shut.] .........

Audah: You! [Fired at the fleeing Judas as he ran and hit him on the back.]

Judas: [Dying]

[Rasid was holding his chest. Maguanacs ran to him. Ahmad attended to Rasid while Abdul put a hand on Quatre's back.]

Ahmad: Captain!

Rasid: ......

Abdoul: Are you okay, kid!

Quatre: Forget about me, take care of your captain... He's important to you people.....

[Federation Mobile Suits moved in around the satellite. A spaceship of liberated workers was launched.]

Abdul: [Inside his Mobile Suit] How many spaceships have yet to take off?

Maguanac: Just one.

Abdul: All right! We'll do whatever it takes to stop the Federation pursuit!

Audah: Can we do it? They've got over a hundred Leos!
Abdul: There are thirty-eight of us. We'll just each take out three of them.

Quatre: Wait!

Quatre: I'm going, too! It's my fault in the first place for not tying him well enough...

Audah: [Sweatdropped] What are you talking about...? He grabbed my gun...

Audah: Shut up, kid, this isn't some game!!

Quatre: I want to fight! With your family! Even I might be some help... No, I want to prove that I can help! I want to become someone with a bit of pride!

Audah: Beat it, kid, or I'll step on you and crush you!

Ahmad: Wait, Audah. The kid's serious.

Ahmad: Can you pilot a Mobile Suit?

Quatre: Leave it to me!

Audah: What do you say, Captain?

Rasid: [On screen] It was thanks to him that I wasn't hit in a vital spot. Loan him my goggles.

Audah: Roger!

Audah: [Tossed the goggles down to Quatre, who caught them] Kid! Take the Captain's Mobile Suit!

Quatre: Roger!

[Maguanac Mobile Suits flew into battle, Quatre's in the front]

Ahmad: Kid, don't do anything reckless!

Quatre: [In the pilot seat with goggles] There's no point in saying that to me now!

[Quatre destroyed numerous Leos]

Audah: Squad one, fire on the enemy that's gathered together in the center!

Squad One: Right!

Audah: Squad two, spread out and back up Squad one.

Squad Two: Roger!

Audah: Squad three, go back and make sure the escape route is secure!!

Squad three: Rogerd!

Quatre: Audah-san, please lead the attack force around the right wing. I'll chase the enemy towards you.

Audah: Got it! But don't call me 'san' anymore! You're wearing the Captain's goggles!

Quatre: [Happy] .....

Quatre: Here I go!

Abdul: That kid's not bad.

Ahmad: Especially considering his arm is wounded!

Abdul: Yeah... That's the real thing.

[A spaceship was launched from the colony.]

Rasid: [On screen] Good work, everyone! The last ship has left the docking bay. Withdraw!

Quatre: Roger. Everyone, please withdraw. I'll pursue the rest of the enemy and destroy them!

Audah: [Sweatdropped] What?!

Ahmad: [Sweatdropped as well] There are more than twenty enemy Mobile Suits left!!

Abdul: [Sweatdropped] You'll die!!

Quatre: Don't you want to go back to the Earth?! Please hurry and leave!!

Rasid: [On screen] You've done well. .....That's enough.

Quatre: I haven't yet proven myself worthy of being a Maguanac, have I?

Rasid: You've done more than enough. So come with us to Earth...

Quatre: Earth...

Rasid: The sky, the sea, the mountains, and the desert... they are all places that cause lives to shine.

Quatre: [Closed his eyes] That sounds nice. I'd like to go.

Quatre: [Pulled back the control lever] I don't know how many years it will take, but I promise I'll join you there. Until then, I have to make myself stronger!

[Quatre's Mobile Suit went after the enemies]

Quatre: [Thinking] That's right. I don't want to run away to Earth. I really want to go there to find my true self.

Rasid: Idiots, withdraw!

Audah: C ... captain.

Rasid: If our thirty-nine Maganac Mobile Suits return safely to Earth, it's thanks to that gentleman.

Ahmad: Gentleman?

Abdul: You're talking about the kid?

Rasid: The Maguanacs are in his debt. From now on, you will call him 'Quatre-sama.' That's an order.

Audah: No need to make it an order. We've fallen in love with that kid..... I mean, Quatre-sama.

Rasid: Right.

The next time Quatre met the Maguanacs was two years later, in the year A.C. 195, when Operation Meteor was launched.

Mr. Winner: [On the phone] Is that so... He fought until the end...?

Mr. Winner: [Put down the phone and thinking: Quaterine, that's your son... prouder than anyone... stronger than anyone.]

Quatre: [Removed his goggles] I won't die yet... Not until I've walked on the Earth.

There was no more uncertainty in Quatre's eyes.
